The First is a Ceremony at Rockaway Beach on Saturday the 3rd.

On Saturday the 10th of February there will be a celebration of Jet closer to town.

Info on both are after the cut...

Saturday, Jan. 3rd:

The Grief Ceremony will take place at Camp Magruder in Rockaway Beach on Saturday, February 3rd. Ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m.. Even if you feel not ready to grieve, or just not ready to grieve publically, you still may come to support those who do need to. Please try to be there by 1:15 p.m., so we may begin relatively on time. Also, come well fed so that you are comfortable during the ceremony. We will have dinner together afterwards.

If you wish to participate fully in the ceremony, please bring:
Some photos/memorabilia of your personal ancestors for a shrine (you will, of course, take these home with you at the end of the ceremony)
A tall, glass alter candle (these can be found in the hispanic food section of any grocery store.)
Drums-djembe/hoop (if you have one)
Sheets, camp pads, air mattresses, camp chairs (if you are staying overnight)
Blankets and pillows for the ceremony
Kites (optional)
A personal water bottle (we will have water available as well)
Beverages- juice, pop, etc.
Snacks- nuts, chips, dips
Empty bowls/platters
Flowers+container for flowers you bring
Tissues

Jet’s brother, Jesse, passed away three and a half years ago. He was a very big part of Jet’s life, as well as the lives of some of those attending, and we have decided to include him in this ceremony. We will be spreading the ashes of both Jet and Jesse at Hug Point, about 30 minutes north of the ceremony site. We will either be spreading the ashes Saturday afternoon/eve or Sunday morning. It depends how long the ceremony lasts on Saturday. Please bring a kite if you have one. Jet loved to fly her kite at the beach and therefore letting a few rise in the wind seems a fabulous way to honor her.

The dress attire should be casual. Keep in mind that we will all be standing for a lengthy period of time, so wear something you will be comfortable in. Wear layers. The weather at the coast is going to be cold, so bring warm clothing too.

We’re hoping that people will want to stay and hang out for a little while after the ceremony, if not stay through the night. Whatever you feel comfortable with... One of Jet’s last wishes was to have a big party with all her loved ones at the beach, and Saturday night we have the whole camp to ourselves. One great perk of the camp is that you can walk through just a few trees and you are on the beach. The weather is supposed to be dry. There are a few outdoor firepits near the lodge, and we have ideas for creating fun inside too. Bring ideas/games/laughter with you as well. We shall see what kind of party we can create. Please join us if you can...

Camp Magruder is like a summer camp for kids. For those that would like to stay the night at the camp, we will be staying in a lodge equipped with single beds. The lodge will have bathrooms and a kitchen, but no showers. There is a shower house you can walk to if you need it. You’ll need to bring your own linens because none of the mattresses will have any. So bring your sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, or any other bedding you will need. The lodge sleeps 30 people, but if there’s more of us wanting to stay, we can probably squeeze together. If you have camp pads or air mattresses, please bring them as there is ample floor space. Even if you sleep on one of the camp beds, maybe someone else could use your pad. We will be providing some of the snacks during the day and dinner Saturday evening.
Anyone is welcome to stay at the lodge with us on Saturday night and this is something that we have paid for. If you want to stay in town, you are on your own money wise:).

There are a few hotels a couple miles up the road in Rockaway Beach and the rates are not too expensive. We have spoken to two oceanfront motels, The Silver Sands Motel, and The Surfside Resort Motel. We have included details below.

Surfside Resort
101 Hwy NW 11th
Rockaway Beach, OR 97136
1-800-243-7786
We liked this one best:
Rates range from $35.00 for a sleeper (small room, queen size bed, no view) to $80.00 for an ocean view(with kitchen, fireplace, balcony, 2 queens).
These rates are only good if you go to the website: www.surfsideocean.com/special.htm and print the coupon for 50% off. Or- if you have an Entertainment card, you can get the same rates.
They also offer smoking rooms and rooms that allow pets.

Silver Sands Resort Motel
215 S. Pacific St.
Rockaway Beach, OR 97136
1-800-457-8972
Rates range from $60.00 for a single (queen size bed + fold out bed) to $75.00 (2 queen size beds + fold out, and kitchenette)
This motel is also pet friendly.
Mention you are attending Jet Vibert’s Memorial to get the above rates.

Directions to Camp Magruder:
From Portland:
Go West out Highway 26
Take Highway 6 at the fork
Go North on Hwy 101
Drive past Tillamook Bay and Garibaldi
Just past the town of Bayview, you’ll see Smith Lake on the left
Just after Smith Lake, take a left on Old Pacific Highway
Turn left after railroad tracks and follow road into camp.
17450 Old Pacific Highway
Rockaway Beach, OR 97136

Feel free to contact Jenifer or Wendy with any questions you might have. Also please let us know if you are planning to attend (though it’s not totally necessary), and if you are planning on staying with us Saturday overnight:). A few of us are going out Friday afternoon and if you’d like to join us and stay with us Friday night, please let us know asap. People coming together in an act of love and support is something that Jet loved to initiate and be a part of. She was so beautiful and full of joy. She will be missed. Please join us in our grief so that we may all celebrate her life.

Thank you,
Wendy & Jenifer
503-805-8929 W
858-525-3527 J

--------

Saturday, January 10th:

Dear Friends,

We will be having a Farewell Celebration for Jet on Saturday,
February 10th. It will be held at Jopa Restaurant 4439 SW Bvtn-
Hillsdale Hwy in Portland, from 7pm until 9pm. Please bring a a
favorite food. Some suggestions would be fruit, salads, cookies,
snacks- basically "finger foods". A no host bar is available to
purchase alcohol.
Jet wanted us to celebrate her life and not concentrate on her
passing. She wanted a party, so let's give her one!
She knew and loved everyone. I'm looking forward to meeting some
of you and being able to see you through her eyes.
Everyone is welcome, so please copy this email and post or pass it
to everyone who knew her. She made an impression on all who met her,
no matter how long they knew her. I would like everyone to have the
opportunity to gather with other friends and share memories they
have of her.
Many Blessings,
Marian Freitas (Jet's mom)

How the founding fathers were radicals and such... and how there should be a Flag Amendment that says all US flags are to be made in the USA. Funny.
